India’s logistics sector faces a pressing need for major skilling reforms, according to Ravikanth Yamarthy, CEO of the Logistics Sector Skill Council. Speaking at LogiMAT India 2026 on February 6, 2026, Yamarthy highlighted the sector’s strong hiring activity in 2025, with a 10.8% net employment growth in the second half of the year.
The sector will need an additional 47 lakh logistics workers by 2030, driven by growth in freight, warehousing, transportation, and supply chain functions. Yamarthy emphasized the need for digital workforce creation and significant skilling reforms.
Bridging the Talent Gap through Collaboration
The Logistics Sector Skill Council has partnered with LogiMAT India to address the talent gap and position India as a global leader in logistics. This collaboration aims to promote workforce upskilling through industry-aligned certification programs and hands-on training.
At LogiMAT India 2026, featuring over 350 global brands from 10 nations, Bernhard Müller, Vice President of Landesmesse Stuttgart GmbH & KG Co., noted that the event has become a strategic platform, supporting India’s journey towards global supply chain leadership.
The partnership between LogiMAT India and the Logistics Sector Skill Council focuses on workforce transformation, aiming to establish India as a global talent powerhouse in logistics.

Empowering Women and Driving Innovation
Shyam Jagannathan, Director General of Shipping and Additional Secretary to the Government of India, stressed the need to create more employment opportunities for women in logistics. Initiatives like Sagar Pe Samman aim to recognize and empower women, contributing to India’s growth narrative.
The event at LogiMAT India 2026 will offer a dynamic conference program and dedicated pavilions showcasing innovations in logistics, shipping, freight, and green transportation. International associations, including the Indian Chamber of International Business, Warehousing Association of India, Indo-French Chamber of Commerce, Indo-American Chamber of Commerce, and the All India Warehousing Welfare Association, will participate to support collaboration and bilateral trade.
