The Four Seasons Hotel Diriyah, created by Aedas, merges contemporary hospitality with the architectural heritage of Saudi Arabia’s Najd region. The 150-key resort is set within Diriyah’s Qurain Cultural District, positioned to frame the historic At-Turaif site, which holds UNESCO World Heritage status. The design reinterpreted Najdi architectural traditions, such as earthy color palettes, courtyard layouts, and defensive structures, into a modern framework that remains deeply connected to the region’s past.
Diriyah’s role as the ancestral home of the Saudi royal family directly influences the hotel’s character. Traditional Najdi settlements were built with compact forms, inward-facing courtyards, and thick earthen walls to regulate temperature. The resort adopts these principles using updated materials: subdued earth tones, handcrafted plaster finishes, and woodwork. These choices maintain privacy while ensuring natural airflow through strategically placed openings.
The hotel’s floor plan reflects Najdi neighborhood structures, with courtyards serving as communal focal points. Guests progress through layered spaces, beginning at arrival courtyards, moving to private accommodations, and ascending to rooftop terraces inspired by the historic “Sharfat” design. These raised platforms provide panoramic views of the Wadi Hanifah valley, reinforcing the harmony between interior comfort and surrounding natural scenery.

The project emphasizes environmental responsibility alongside its cultural focus. It aims for LEED, SITES, and MOSTADAM sustainability certifications through passive cooling techniques, energy-efficient systems, and environmentally responsible materials. This approach aligns with traditional Najdi architecture’s climate-adaptive features while fulfilling contemporary ecological standards.
The resort comprises 150 guest rooms distributed across three levels, alongside facilities including specialty restaurants, a ballroom, spa, swimming pools, and a children’s club. Courtyards serve as the primary organising elements, creating a sequence of outdoor rooms that provide shade, social gathering spaces, and moments of calm within the resort environment. Terraces, communal gathering spaces, and shaded courtyards create an environment where guests experience the area’s heritage through daily interactions.
