Carlton North: Former Hawk Angelo Lekkas and wife Renata list renovated terrace house
Former Hawk Angelo Lekkas and his family are selling 280 Canning St, Carlton North.
Former Hawthorn midfielder Angelo Lekkas and wife Renata are handballing their much-loved Carlton North house with $2.8m-$2.95m price expectations.
Lekkas played 180 games with the Hawks across 11 seasons.
After suffering a minor stroke following a 2005 practice match, doctors feared Lekkas would suffer some form of ongoing paralysis, but he completed rehabilitation and returned to the game within months.

After announcing his retirement later that year, he went on to become a National Stroke Foundation ambassador and AFL multicultural ambassador.
He now runs a sports coaching company for young footballers and a mortgage broking business.
Lekkas said he and Renata purchased their Victorian-era freestanding terrace house at 280 Canning St in 2002 – the same year he represented Australia in the International Rules series – fulfilling their long-held dream to live on the street.
“I don’t think you can live in a better location in Melbourne than Canning St,” he said.
“When you open the front door, it is full of life – cafe culture, cyclists, dog parks, parks, transportation, and most importantly, a great community.”
The kitchen features marble benchtops, ample storage and benchspace and a freestanding island bench.

About 12 years ago, they renovated and extended the four-bedroom house.
“It’s a Carlton home built 100 years ago and the classic charms of original high ceilings and ceiling roses are priceless,” Lekkas said.
“The renovation was inspired by maintaining the historic Carlton home’s appearance while blending it in with a modernized flair.”
The downstairs dining and living area features a gas log fire and glass doors opening to an outdoor entertaining deck and courtyard.

Upstairs offers city views while the main bedroom retreat includes a walk-in wardrobe and ensuite.
Additional highlights include a bathroom — which looks out into an atrium garden — European laundry, polished timber floors and off-street parking at the rear accessed via a remote roller door.
Lekkas said he and wife felt sad about selling but were planning a sea-change as their children headed to a school further out of town.
The house is a short walk to Rathdowne Village, Carlton North Primary School, trams, Curtain Square and Lygon St.

Nelson Alexander Carlton North principal Peter Varellas said the house’s renovation still retained a modern feel.
“It’s a little wider than most terraces, about 5.2m wide,” Mr Varellas said.
“Canning St is one of the most popular streets in Carlton North, especially that southern end near the primary school – houses down this end don’t come up every often.”
The house will be auctioned at 6.30pm on March 27.
